Economic Empowerment Programme
Persons with Disabilities continue to live below the poverty line wherever they are in the society, this is so given the unequal power relations witnessed in the society and emphasized by discrimination and negative myths associated with Persons with Disabilities. With little or no access to education, discrimination on the grounds of disability in the job market, lack of access to credit facilities, infrastructural challenges, disability and the fact that majority of the disabled persons are born from poor families; a seed for extreme poverty is often sawed.
KEDAN recognizes this challenge facing persons with disabilities thus the need to develop a programme that will respond to the numerous challenges with an aim of empowering persons with disabilities majorly targeting young people with disabilities.

Job Placement and Livelihood Project.
In partnership with Able Child Africa,KEDAN is implementing a two-year job placement and livelihood project targeting 50 disabled youth to be trained in “skills for work” where atleast 20 will be able to take part in a work placement and hopefully,5 of them will be permanently employed after their placement.
The selected young disabled people will be trained in computer skills, entrepreneurship, job searching skills, lifeskills etc.
Upon completion, this project is meant to showcase the benefit of employing disabled people given the time and input dedicated to their work thus challenging the myths surrounding the employability of people with disabilities as well as facilitating access to decent work and income to persons with disabilities.
Business Development Support Project.
With support from Able Child Africa, KEDAN is developing a business development support project that would provide a support framework for aspiring disabled entrepreneurs who have business ideas and lack capital to implement them.
Through a competitive process to be established, KEDAN will select business ideas from young disabled persons, provide trainings and links to mentors before supporting viable business ideas that have high chances to succeed.
KEDAN is still looking for partners who are interested in partnering together to ensure that the project succeeds and reaches a wider audience.

Health and fitness.
Health has become a major issue among young disabled people, especially due to the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic, and drug abuse. Research has shown that a large percentage of new HIV infection occurs among the 18-35 age groups. Young disabled people are considered sexually pure and inactive thus the rise in rape cases targeting them that sometimes lead to sexually transmitted diseases. Young disabled women face a double-challenge in terms of accessing both ante-natal and post-natal care due to infrastructural challenges and unprepared ness of the attendants to serve people with disabilities
Current HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns lack specific attention to the needs of disabled youth making it inaccessible.
It is from these needs that KEDAN proposes to implement health and fitness programme that gives specific attention to the issues affecting young disabled people i.e. HIV/AIDS awareness initiative that is accessible to both types of disabilities, reproductive health concerns, mobility and general personal health awareness.

Lobbying and Advocacy Programme.
More than often, persons with disabilities are regarded lowly in the society and have to go through numerous hardships to gain recognition. From negative perceptions, derogative language and reference meted to them, their active participation in the development processes is severely hindered. Policy makers rarely give attention to issues affecting persons with disabilities while making policies thus jeopardizing their development making them appear as second-class citizen.
